The long answer is stop using facebook, google, yahoo, OSX and PC operating systems, use Talis OS on hardware that has an open source BIOS like coreboot, learn how to use PGP,use https everywhere, disable your microphone and camera, do not use a smartphone, use alphanumeric passwords with at least one uppercase, do not use the same password for all sites or services, use two factor authentication etc. for most of us the above is not really feasible even if the NSA keeps everything for 15 years or more ... so for the simple answer use TOR for browsing as much as you can and install a relay node if you know how to, this will disrupt and protect you partially Https Everywhere is also an easy add on to install.
